Sample Studios in The Mayor’s Pavilion will be open throughout the afternoon presenting ‘Individual Masses’, a solo exhibition by Cork based Japanese visual artist Seiko Hayase.

A graduate of Nagoya University of Arts, Seiko works in painting, sculpture, installation and socially engaged art. She is the recipient of the inaugural Cork Midsummer Festival Emerging Artist Award in partnership with Sample-Studios and the Connect 5 Award as part of which she had her first major solo exhibition in GOMA Waterford in 2022.

Seiko hosted a series of hand moulding workshops throughout Cork in Spring/Summer 2023- by taking part, participants joined a community, creating space for exploration and creativity. Each hand has been added to large-scale sculptures displayed as part of Individual Masses.

Individual Masses exhibition runs from July 6 – August 6 as part of Sample-Studios’ Studios of Sanctuary Artist in Residence series.
